How it Works: Step by Step
Not sure where to start? Even if you've never commissioned custom artwork before, I will show you the step by step process we will go through together to create your perfect portrait!
I will work with you each step of the way to make sure your portrait comes out just how you imagined it.

Fill out my contact form
Send me a message through the contact form here, and let me know what you are looking for, as well as any special requests you might have, like a specific background, additional items in the painting, or if you need it by a certain date!
Pay to confirm your order
When you are ready to order, I will send you the link to complete your purchase and hold your spot in my order list!
Choose the photo(s) you want me to work from
Next, I'll have you send me the photo references for the painting.
If you're not sure which pictures will work best, feel free to send me a bunch and I will help you choose the perfect shot. (And I'll never turn down any extra cute pet photos!)
Pick a background for your portrait
After we decide on a photo to use for the main reference, we will choose what the background will be.
If you don't already have something in mind, I can recommend color choices and send you a mockup to preview what the final painting will look like.
It's time to create your painting!
Once the decisions have been made, all you have to do is sit tight and wait for me to complete your painting! I will send you several updates along the way so you can follow along.
As I get close to the finish line I will ask you for final approval on the piece before considering it finished.
Packing and shipping
After you are happy with your completed portrait I will pack and ship it to you.
All of my paintings are shipped in extra-sturdy boxes, custom built to fit the canvas so it arrives safe and sound.
For orders within the US, shipping is included in the price of the painting. For international orders additonal shipping charges may apply.

Here's some of the most common questions I get about my pet portraits. If you don't see your question answered here, send me a message!
Can you paint any pet?
I have experience painting all sorts of animals! Whether you have birds, rabbits, ferrets, horses, or something really exotic, I can help you out!
I’m always looking for a challenge, so if there is any type of animal you’d like, wild or domestic, as long as you have some good photos of it I’d love to paint them for you!
Can I get multiple pets in one painting?
Absolutely! Additional pets added into the painting are $200 each. I usually combine multiple photos of the different pets into one composition, making a Photoshop mockup so that you can see how it will look.
(I know how hard it is to get multiple pets to sit still for one good photo!!) Just tell me in your message what you are looking for and I can give you a quote!
What kinds of photos work best?
For portrait paintings, a clear, well lit photo taken at eye level with your pet will work the best and look the most natural.
Often, pets are looking up towards the camera when we take photos of them, which can cause distortion and perspective issues, so get down on their eye level to snap some photos!
The higher resolution the photo is, the better, as well as being in focus and with clear, natural lighting.
If you’re not sure which photos you have will work best, feel free to send them to me and I can give my opinion.
Even though I mainly work from one photo to create your painting, having multiples to reference your pet’s coloring and features is always helpful. Plus, I will never turn down extra cute pet photos!
How long does it take to finish?
Generally I can finish a portrait within two to three weeks of starting it. Depending on how many other commissions I have at the time, I may be able to start right away or there may be a waiting list.
If you need your painting completed by a specific date, just message me and I will let you know if it is possible. Extra fees may be applied to rush orders.
Can you change the background, or add or remove items?
For most of my portraits I do a soft gradient color to keep the focus on your pet, but if you’d like I can use the background from the photo or change it to any other scene you would like to see.
Other commonly asked for changes are things like adding or removing a collar from the photo, or a favorite toy. Just let me know in your message what you would prefer and I will give you a quote! (For things like complex backgrounds there may be an additional charge.)
Is my portrait order refundable?
Due to the time and materials spent creating your painting, I cannot offer refunds of any kind on custom paintings once work on them has begun.
If you would like to cancel your order before I have started working on it, let me know and I will arrange it.
